Ohio's MetroHealth System to Begin $26M Capital Improvement Project

MetroHealth System in Cleveland, Ohio, has received approval from the hospital board to begin work on a $26 million capital improvement plan, weeks after officials had discussed reinvesting in the county-run hospital, according to a report in The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

The plan includes upgrades to areas on MetroHealth's main campus in Cleveland, including refurbished waiting rooms, new technology systems and new medical equipment, according to the report. The $26 million does not include plans which are underway for a new medical center.

MetroHealth, which had experienced some financial troubles, reported $52.4 million in net income last year, according to the report. The health system also recently signed a new three-year agreement with AFSCME Local 3360 in which the union agreed to no wage increase in 2010, a 2.75 percent increase in 2011 and a 3 percent increase in 2012 for some 1,900 workers at MetroHealth.
