Obama to Confer With State Exchange Managers

President Obama and senior administration officials will hold a teleconference with the managers of the new state-based health insurance exchanges established under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to a report from The Hill.

The president wants to thank the managers for their work and learn about the progress they have made in setting up the new marketplaces, White House spokesman Josh Earnest told The Hill. Washington, D.C., and 16 states are running their own exchanges. The federal government will facilitate exchanges in the remaining states.

Premium rates for state-based exchanges in California, Maryland and New York have ended up lower than expected, according to the report. HHS issued a report last month that found the lowest-cost silver plan premium in the individual market in eleven states that have released premium information is 18 percent lower than Congressional Budget Office estimates. The exchanges will open for enrollment Oct. 1.
