Obama Administration Delays PPACA Out-of-Pocket Maximums

Another provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has been delayed — the law's out-of-pocket maximums for insured patients will not take effect until 2015, according to a report in The Hill.

Instead of using the PPACA's out-of-pocket caps, including deductibles and copays, of $6,350 for individuals and $12,700 for families, some insurers will be able to set their own maximums, according to the report.

"We had to balance the interests of consumers with the concerns of health plan sponsors and carriers, which told us that their computer systems were not set up to aggregate all of a person's out-of-pocket costs. They asked for more time to comply," a senior administration official told The New York Times.
