NYU Langone Medical Center has formally withdrawn as a potential merger partner for Lenox Hill Hospital, according to a report by Crain's New York Business.
NYU Langone withdrew after Lenox Hill said that it would not consider a full merger with the hospital, according to the report.
Lenox Hill suffered a $20 million operating loss last year and began exploring partnership opportunities in October. NYU, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System and Mount Sinai Hospital showed interest as potential partners, but only NYU and North Shore-LIJ were invited to submit merger proposals, according to the report.
NYU proposed a full merger while North Shore-LIJ proposed an affiliation that would allow Lenox Hill's current administrators to remain in control of the hospital.
Whether or not Lenox Hill will move forward with the North Shore-LIJ affiliate is unclear at this time.
