New York's Olean General Hospital, Pennsylvania's Bradford Regional Medical Center Merge to Form Health System

The 264-bed Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital and 150-bed Bradford (Pa.) Regional Medical Center have merged to form Upper Allegheny Health System, according to a release from the hospitals.

The hospitals will combine information technology, human resources, quality control, planning and communications into the new parent group, headed by Timothy Finan, former president and CEO of Olean General.

Fifty percent of U.S. hospitals are in health systems because partnerships reduce duplication, improve recruitment and enhance quality of care, the release stated.

It took a year to get regulatory approvals from both Pennsylvania and New York authorities.
