New York Physician Indicted on 28 Counts of Healthcare Fraud

William Holley, MD, a podiatrist based in Buffalo, N.Y., was indicted on 28 charges of healthcare fraud, alleging the physician submitted numerous fraudulent charges to federal and state health insurers, according to a report in The Buffalo News.

According to the indictment, Dr. Holley allegedly submitted fraudulent bills to Medicare and Univera Healthcare, a private health insurance company, from Jan. 2001 to May 2008. No dollar amount for these charges were given, according to the report.

Dr. Holley is charged for allegedly billing for services such as edge incisions, nail avulsions, incision and drainage and skin debridements, when only routine care was provided, according to the report.

Officials for Dr. Holley say the charges are untrue and stem from an investigation of Radislav Lankin, an alleged former tenant of Dr. Holley's office, according to the report. Mr. Lankin pleaded guilty and was sentenced in July 2008 on charges of healthcare fraud that did not involve Dr. Holley.
