At the 98th meeting of the Radiological Society of North America in Chicago, Ill., from Nov. 25 to 30, 2012, Siemens Healthcare displayed new mammography technology, which reduces radiation doses up to 30 percent without compromising image quality.
The MAMMOMAT Inspiration Prime Edition lowers the radiation dose to patients by replacing a standard scatter radiation with an algorithm, which identifies scatter-causing structures and calculates a corrected image. The algorithm enables progressive image reconstruction so physicians can achieve high-quality images with less of a radiation dose.
The MAMMOMAT Inspiration Edition is pending 510(k) clearance from the Food and Drug Administration and is not currently available commercially in the United States.
