New Mexico VA reports data breach affecting more than 2,600 vets

Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., has reported a data breach after a folder containing protected health information was found in a public restroom in the lobby of one of the buildings, according to a KRWG report.

A VA supervisor allegedly found the folder in the restroom, which contained the names and Social Security numbers of 2,657 veterans, according to the report.

No evidence of criminal activities involving the compromised data has been reported. The employee who misplaced the folder has voluntarily resigned from the VA, according to the report.
