Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas in Austin has announced details on its new $48 million tower that is currently under construction.
The tower will house the region's first pediatric comprehensive inpatient rehabilitative care center, which will serve children who have had invasive orthopedic, trauma or brain surgeries and children with complex conditions such as stroke and cancer.
The new 76,683-square-foot, 72-bed facility will increase the hospital's capacity to 247 beds. Patient visits at the hospital increased by 67 percent from 2007 to 2011.
The addition will also expand existing specialty care services, including cardiology, orthopedics, sports medicine and neurosciences.
Construction began in October 2011 and is expected to be completed in May 2013.
