Naval Medical Center San Diego Opens New $10.1M ED

Naval Medical Center San Diego announced the opening of its new $10.1 million emergency department.

The 23,800 square-foot ED has 41 beds — 14 beds in the fast-track area and 27 beds in the main ED — up from 26 total beds in the old ED. The new facility also includes five triage bays, five high acuity beds, a resource room, a conference room and new equipment.

The old ED was designed to accommodate 30,000 patients a year, but the hospital currently sees roughly 66,000 to 70,000 ED patients a year. The hospital hopes the new ED will be able to treat 75,000 patients a year, according to the release.
