Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., is seeking a public hearing on West Virginia University Hospitals' $248 million planned expansion, according to a WBOY report.
Mon General filed as an affected party in response to a certificate of need request by WVU Hospitals, also located in Morgantown, to add more than 100 beds to Ruby Memorial Hospital.
A public hearing would delay WVU Hospitals' proposed project, which could force patients to leave the state for care, WVU Hospitals President and CEO Bruce McClymonds said in the report. He said the hospital is at capacity, which hinders its ability to care for the high number of transfers it receives from other hospitals. Mon General is among the top five hospitals that transfer patients to WVU Hospitals, according to the report.
