Mayo Health Launches Regionalization Efforts to Cut Costs and Improve Care

Mayo Health Services in Rochester, Minn., will begin sharing best practices and resources among its regional health centers and hospitals in order to improve quality of service and costs, according to a report in The Post-Bulletin

The "regionalization" model enforces Mayo's pay-for-value system of service, which would ensure that patients would receive the same quality of service at any and all of the clinics and hospitals affiliated with Mayo, according to the report.

The improvements include a region-wide electronic medical record system and centralized laboratory and radiology services, among other initiatives, according to the report. Officials from MHS said in the report that services would only be shared or centralized if it would improve patient care.

Although the goal of regionalization isn't expansion, officials have not ruled out the option as 3 million potential patients live in the MHS area, according to the report.
