Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola University Health System announced the opening of its new emergency department.
The John L. Keeley, MD Emergency Department includes 14 new patient rooms, new triage rooms, trauma bays, nursing stations and imaging and security areas. Continued construction will add nurse stations and additional patient and trauma rooms, will be completed this summer.
The ED's volume has grown from 29,000 patients a year in 1995 to 53,000 patients a year today.
The ED is named for the late Dr. Keeley, who was chair of Loyola's department of surgery from 1958 to 1969, according to the release. The Keeley family also contributed funds for the renovation.
