Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente has announced a hospital design competition for a small eco-conscious, patient-friendly hospital and has invited students, architects, engineers and others to participate, according to a Kaiser news release.
The small hospital is a departure for Kaiser Permanente, whose integrated model of care traditionally focused on large hospitals with supporting outpatient medical office buildings.
The "Small Hospital, Big Idea" competition will look for the innovative use of technology and facility design to improve access to care and foster collaboration and quality while remaining efficient and affordable, according to the release.
The winner of the competition will be awarded $750,000 and the right to contract with Kaiser for the project.
Registration for the competition is free and begins Feb. 28 and ends on March 21. To register, visit: http://design.kpnfs.com.
