The Joint Commission has added a set of optional perinatal care measures to its 2010 ORYX core performance measures for accredited hospitals, according to a news release from the American Hospital Association.
The perinatal care measure set will replace the measures set for pregnancy and related conditions beginning with April 1 discharges, according to the release.
The measures, supported by the National Quality Forum, include elective delivery, Cesarean section, use of antenatal steroids, healthcare-associated bloodstream infections in newborns and exclusive breast milk feeding.
