Falls Church, Va.-based Inova Health System will team up with health insurer Aetna to create a healthcare plan providing financial incentives to physicians in the health system to use less-costly care and promote preventative medicine, according to a Washington Post report.
Companies enrolling employees in the new Aetna-Inova healthcare plan, known as Innovation Health Plans, will get a rebate if the cost of care comes in lower than expected. The plan uses Inova's hospital system alongside a group of affiliated physicians as the accepted network of providers for subscribers of the plan. It will utilize electronic medical records to gauge how effective physicians are at hitting quality metrics.
