Hospital Association Urges Congressional Support of HHS Discretionary Programs

The American Hospital Association is calling on the U.S. House Appropriations Committee to provide funding in fiscal year 2013 for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, patient-centered outcomes research and programs to improve access to healthcare, according to an AHA News Now report.

The AHA says it backs the committee's support for rural health programs, Children's Hospital Graduate Medical Education and policies to halt recent National Labor Relations Board actions.

The Fiscal Year 2013 Labor, Health and Human Services Funding Bill approved last week would:
  • Defund the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, including its prevention fund.
  • Cease funding for AHRQ, effective Oct. 1.
  • End federal funding for patient-centered outcomes research.
  • Provide $275 million for CHGME.
  • Grant $139 million for rural health programs.
  • Prohibit the NLRB from creating "harmful anti-business regulations."
