Henry Ford Health System's $360 million West Bloomfield hospital is still losing money after a year of operation, but the system has budgeted for the loss, according to the Detroit News.
With retail shops, a resort-style feel and a former Ritz-Carlton executive as CEO, the 191-bed hospital opened in the depth of the recession in the hardest-hit of all states, but it is meeting many of its performance targets and is about 85 percent full.
A competitor with similar amenities, 200-bed St. John Providence Park Hospital, opened in nearby Novi, Mich. less than a year before Henry Ford's facility, turned a profit toward the end of its first year and is now 70-80 percent occupied.
