GOP Lawmakers Say IRS Can't be Trusted to Implement PPACA

The Internal Revenue Service is in no position to implement the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, said Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), House Ways and Means Committee chairman, at a congressional hearing today.

In his prepared opening statements, Mr. Camp said he isn't confident in the IRS' ability to prevent fraud or protect confidential taxpayer information. He also expressed concerns about whether or not CMS will be ready to launch the federally run health insurance exchanges and finish testing them by Oct. 1.

The committee held the hearing in order to get updates on the status of the PPACA implementation. CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner testified as a witness at the hearing, saying her agency will be prepared to launch the exchanges by the Oct. 1 deadline.
