HCA Virginia is planning to build a $10 million emergency department more than two years ahead of the rest of the hospital facility in Sterling, Va., according to a Washington Business Journal report.
HCA Virginia received regulatory approval to build the 164-bed StoneSpring Medical Center in 2009, but the facility isn't expected to open until late 2015. Still, HCA officials wanted to begin offering services there sooner.
Work on the freestanding ED will begin this summer and it's expected to open in mid-2013. When the hospital is complete in 2015, the ED will remain a freestanding facility on campus. This will be HCA Virginia's second freestanding ED.
