Health officials in Colorado inadvertently compromised the protected health information of 15,000 patients in a mailing error, according to a Denver Post report.
A state agency mailed postcards as part of a survey to patients receiving behavioral health services through Medicaid or the Department of Human Services' Office of Behavioral Health. The postcards breached protected health information by exposing people who receive behavioral healthcare services, as "whether someone receives behavioral healthcare services is considered protected private medical information," according to the report.
No financial information or Social Security numbers were disclosed, according to the report.
