Jackson Health System in Miami still anticipates a loss of $229.4 million in fiscal 2010, but now CEO Eneida Roldan is proposing eliminating 650 jobs and keeping two satellite hospitals open, a reversal from her earlier proposal to cut 4,487 jobs and close Jackson North and Jackson South hospitals, according to a story in The Miami Herald.
The plan hinges on an agreement with a union to make $30 million in cuts over the next six months and delaying a $29 million payment from Jackson to the University of Miami, neither of which has been agreed to yet.
The proposal was made during a meeting of the Public Health Trust, which oversees the hospital and must deal with the budget cuts. Ms. Roldan's proposal is expected to be considered by the Miami-Dade Commission.
