Capacity Management Tools Can Help Prevent Hospital-Acquired Infections

Capacity management tools and real-time locating systems can help hospitals reduce infections from transport equipment such as wheelchairs, according to a TeleTracking blog.

Wheelchairs can spread infections if they transport infected patients without being cleaned properly. To prevent this infection risk, San Antonio-based Methodist Healthcare System implemented TeleTracking's capacity management system that tracks patients' moves throughout the hospital, files patient histories and monitors bed availability. The health system can send alerts to all necessary personnel — including those in transportation — when a patient needs to be isolated due to infection.

In addition, Methodist used TeleTracking's RTLS to track all moveable medical devices, including wheelchairs.
