In a letter to California Attorney General Jerry Brown, several state legislators are asking for an investigation into “allegations of questionable business practices” at Sutter Health, according to an article in the San Francisco Business Times.
The Business Times says critics have accused the Sacramento-based hospital system of “milking” Marin General Hospital of cash before Sutter’s lease there runs out next summer and of limiting access to care in San Leandro with plans to transfer San Leandro Hospital to Alameda County for non-acute care.
In response, a Sutter Health spokesman told the Business Times that the legislators' letter misrepresents Sutter's "impressive track record of preserving and expanding access to care" and its service to low-income patients and communities.
