California Department of Public Health Fines 12 Hospitals for Failing to Comply With Licensure Requirements

The California Department of Public Health has fined 12 hospitals for failing to comply with various state licensure requirements, according to a report by KCRA 3.

Each of the hospitals was hit with a $25,000 fine per violation, according to the report.

The 12 facilities receiving fines were: Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael, Enloe Medical Center in Chico, Kaiser Foundation Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Vallejo, Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital in San Andreas, St. Helena Hospital in Clearlake, Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, Children's Hospital of Orange County in Orange, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, Los Angeles County/University of Southern California in Los Angeles, South Coast Medical Center in South Laguna and Southwest Healthcare Systems in Riverside.

Violations include failure to follow policies and procedures for fall prevention; failure to implement policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective administration of medications; failure to meet minimum staffing requirements; failure to comply with orders for continuous patient monitoring; and failure follow appropriate surgical policy and procedure, resulting in retained foreign objects.
