$400M Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children in Alabama Dedicated Today

The Benjamin Russell Hospital for Children in Birmingham, Ala., a $400 million facility, will be dedicated today, according to a Birmingham News report.

An expansion of Children's of Alabama, the 12-story Benjamin Russell Hospital is the first hospital in Alabama to gain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The Benjamin Russell facility makes Children's of Alabama the third-largest pediatric hospital in the nation, according to the report.

The new hospital building will allow for advanced surgical techniques, as well as provide sufficient space for parents seeking to spend time with their hospitalized children, according to the report.

Patients will be transferred to Benjamin Russell in early August.
