For nearly $225,000, the owner of a durable medical equipment company settled allegations concerning a Medicare kickback scheme, according to court documents.
The defendant, Justin Leland, registered US Professional Medical Supply in Washington state in 2018, the Justice Department said Aug. 7. The next year, the business submitted about 400 billing claims to Medicare, which all listed Mr. Leland as the provider while physicians received kickbacks in exchange for ordering the products.
Medicare paid more than $112,000 for these claims. To resolve allegations of healthcare fraud, Mr. Leland agreed to pay $224,620 to the United States.
