Valley, Englewood Hospitals Again Turn to Courts to Protest HackensackUMC's Pascack Valley Plans

Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J., and Englewood (N.J.) Hospital and Medical Center have again turned to the courts to try to stop Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center from opening Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, N.J., according to a Record report.

This latest move follows multiple attempts by Valley Hospital and Englewood Hospital and Medical Center to halt HackensackUMC's reopening of Pascack Valley Hospital. HackensackUMC began its $92 million renovation of the hospital in late April.

Valley Hospital and Englewood have requested a three-judge panel of the Appellate Division of Superior Court in Newark, N.J., to rule that the state health commissioner should reconsider her approval of Pascack Valley's reopening. Health Commissioner Mary O'Dowd approved the reopening in February.

Valley Hospital and Englewood named Ms. O'Dowd, the state department of health and HackensackUMC in their suit, according to the report. The two hospitals claim there is no need for another hospital in the region.
