The owners of Knoxville, Tenn.-based Rocky Hill Pharmacy face charges following a federal investigation into alleged healthcare fraud, NBC affiliate WBIR reported Nov. 1.
Tiffany Haney and Anne Warren are accused of defrauding Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies for more than $8.7 million over a six-year period. Both face multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and aggravated identity theft.
From August 2018 to July 2024, Ms. Haney and Ms. Warren allegedly submitted forged prescriptions to various health insurance programs, including billing for prescriptions that were never authorized. The indictment claims they used the names of medical providers to forge prescriptions for themselves and their family members.
The pharmacy is alleged to have created a drug formulary featuring high-reimbursement medications, such as steroids and lidocaine creams, which were then marketed to pain clinics and healthcare providers.
Ms. Haney and Ms. Warren are scheduled to appear in court Nov. 12.
