A woman who was fired after nearly four decades working at Billings, Mont.-based St. Vincent Healthcare is suing the health system, according to a Billings Gazette report.
Here are nine things to know.
1. The woman suing St. Vincent is Roxanna Jackson, who served as an instrument technician, according to the report. She has speech and learning disabilities.
2. Ms. Jackson alleges retaliation and wrongful termination, and claims the hospital discriminated against her based on age and disability, the article states.
3. Court records show Ms. Jackson's employment ended approximately three years ago, following disciplinary issues that came about in 2013, the Billings Gazette reports.
4. Ms. Jackson's attorney, Eric Holm of Billings, said in court records the longtime employee was under a new supervisor at the time, who wanted Ms. Johnson to improve job performance by increasing work speed and performing more complex tasks, according to the report.
5. Mr. Holm said Ms. Jackson was fired in August 2014 after multiple write-ups and additional training, among other actions, the Billings Gazette reports.
6. Ms. Jackson contends she requested more time, as well as assistance, to complete her work, but said St. Vincent failed to address these issues, or place her in another position, according to the report.
7. The health system claims Ms. Jackson could not assemble instrument trays, even when she had accommodations, U.S. District Judge Susan Watters said in the report.
8. Hospital officials told Becker's Hospital Review via email they are unable to comment on pending legal matters.
9. The judge ruled last month that Ms. Jackson's suit will go to trial in federal court, according to the Billings Gazette.
