OIG: New Jersey Owes $500k for Medicaid Reimbursements for Medicare Premiums

New Jersey's Department of Human Services improperly claimed Medicaid reimbursement for Medicare premiums for 957 beneficiaries, overbilling the federal government $524,000, according to HHS' Office of the Inspector General.

The state's Medicaid program is permitted to provide health insurance for needy individuals under the Social Security Act, although the majority of Medicare Part B premium claims were not filed in accordance with federal requirements.

The OIG recommends New Jersey refund the government and work closely with the state's Department of Health and Senior Services to ensure enrollees meet federal requirements.
