An investigation determined that Jennifer Adams routinely diverted medications such as fentanyl, morphine and ketamine for her own use between Oct. 1, 2018, and Feb. 18, 2020. Authorities said Ms. Adams refilled the vials with saline solution and used them on up to 40 unknowing patients seeking care in the hospital's emergency department.

She pleaded guilty to tampering with consumer products, and the Indiana State Board of Nursing suspended her license in 2020. A judge also ordered Ms. Adams to pay a $1,000 fine and undergo three years' probation after her prison sentence.
