A member of a committee organized by the Maryland Health Care Commission to prevent improper stenting has now been accused of unnecessary stenting himself in three separate legal claims, according to a Baltimore Sun report.
John Chung-Yee Wang, MD, is a former colleague of Mark Midei, MD, who was accused of implanting hundreds of unnecessary heart stents at St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Md. Dr. Wang now leads the cardiac catheterization lab at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore and faces claims of overstenting dating back to 2005.
The allegations are casting doubts over the objectivity of the health commission's advisory committee, which was tasked to recommend legislative changes to improve supervision over the practice of stenting.
Union Memorial declined comment on the allegations, according to the report.
