Lehigh Valley Health Network, based in Allentown, Pa., has agreed to pay $4.5 million to settle a lawsuit claiming the health system failed to pay nurses for work done before and after shifts and during their lunch breaks, according to an Express-Times report.
The original suit was filed in 2010 by a nurse who claimed she and other non-exempt registered nurses were not paid for work performed outside of scheduled shifts as well as for time spent in training activities.
The health system said it disagrees with the allegations in the case but resolved the dispute on a "mutually agreeable and reasonable basis."
Final approval of the settlement is scheduled for July 19, according to the report.
