Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Settles False Claims Allegations

Hutchinson (Kan.) Regional Medical Center has agreed to a settlement of $853,651 to resolve allegations the hospital violated the False Claims Act.

The allegations revolved around Medicare claims filed by the hospital for hyperbaric oxygen wound therapy services. The U.S. Department of Justice claimed that between March 23, 2007, and Jan. 31, 2011, the hospital submitted claims for these services that were not medically necessary, or did not have proper documentation to prove medical necessity.

HRMC has also refunded Medicare for the claimed services, bringing the total payment amount to more than $1.7 million. Additionally, the hospital entered into a corporate integrity agreement with the HHS' Office of the Inspector General.

HRMC has not admitted to any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
