The former owner of a hospice care company was sentenced to 72 months in prison and ordered to pay more than $3.6 million in restitution for her role in a healthcare fraud scheme.
Kristal Glover-Wing, 51, formerly of Broussard, La., owned Angel Care Hospice, which provided hospice services in the state, according to a June 20 Justice Department news release. She was found guilty in April 2023 of placing more than 24 patients in hospice care that did not meet the criteria required by Medicare.
The fraud occurred between 2009 and 2017, according to the release. During the time that patients were place on hospice and under Angel Care's supervision, none of the patients had been diagnosed with a terminal condition. Some of the patients who are still alive testified at trial that they never knew that they had been placed on hospice.
