The former vice president of corporate services at University Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M., is the target of a federal investigation separate from the hospital, according to a report from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
An internal audit at the hospital recently revealed possible employee embezzlement. Shortly after, Greg Bruce was asked to resign from his position as VP of corporate services. There was no explanation for his resignation, and his letter consisted of one sentence, according to the report: "I hereby resign from UMC Health System, effective immediately."
UMC has not released how much money was tied up in the possible embezzlement. While the hospital is not under investigation, it is cooperating with the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the U.S. Attorney's Office.
