Former Alabama state Rep. Ed Henry (R) indicated he will change his plea from not guilty to guilty in a Medicare fraud case, according to DecaturDaily.com.
The case is related to Mr. Henry's former chronic care management business, MyPractice24, which allegedly provided kickbacks to physicians who referred patients to his office. Mr. Henry has been indicted on over a dozen charges, including money laundering, conspiracy to defraud the United States, violation of the anti-kickback statute, and conspiracy to commit heathcare fraud.
Punuru Reddy, MD, and Nicole Scruggs, MD, are co-defendants in the case, and Dr. Scruggs has pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to pay and receive kickbacks in relation to a federal healthcare program, The Cullman Times reports. Gilberto Sanchez, MD, was also part of the kickback scheme, though he is already serving time in prison for unrelated charges.
