Federal Judge Appeases Domino's Founder With Contraceptive Mandate Hold

U.S. District Judge Lawrence Zatkoff temporarily protected a Michigan employer from the federal health law's contraception coverage mandate that would have taken effect Tuesday when he granted request for a restraining order on the provision by the founder of Domino's Pizza, who argued it violated his religious beliefs, according to a report in USA Today.

Tom Monaghan, a vocal Catholic, sold the pizza company in 1998 and now owns an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based property management company of a similar name, Domino's Farms. Mr. Monaghan filed for the temporary restraining order Dec. 21.

According to the report, court documents show the company would have faced about $200,000 in penalties each year if it did not comply with the requirement.
