Ex-nurse sentenced for stealing opioids from Kansas hospital

Former nurse Alec Ramirez, 32, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and had his license revoked after he was convicted of stealing controlled substances from Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kan.

In March 2021, Mr. Ramirez removed vials of fentanyl and hydromorphone from an automated dispensing cabinet at the hospital and replaced the drugs with an alternate liquid before returning the vials to the cabinet, according to the Justice Department.

In December 2022, he pleaded guilty to one count of tampering with a consumer product and one count of possession of fentanyl by deception and subterfuge.
