Colorado physician must pay $1M to former surgical patient, court rules

Colorado Springs, Colo., surgeon Tiffany Willard, MD, was ordered to pay nearly $1 million to a former patient, ABC affiliate KRDO reported Dec. 12.

In October, a jury ruled Dr. Willard, who operates at UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs, guilty of medical battery against a hemorrhoid surgery patient, the report said. She will pay the former patient $974,543 for past and future medical costs.

The patient expected a largely noninvasive procedure, the report said. Dr. Willard instead performed an invasive internal procedure, which was not mentioned in the patient's consent agreement.

Dr. Willard was found not guilty of negligence in the case, the report said. She and her legal team said they are planning to appeal.
