CMS has awarded $9 million to help Senior Medicare Patrols continue in the fight against Medicare fraud, according to a CMS news release.
The SMP program is operated by the Administration on Aging in partnership with CMS and the HHS Office of Inspector General. It helps to empower seniors to prevent, detect and report healthcare fraud and relies on approximately 5,000 volunteers across the country.
This is the second year CMS has provided $9 million in grants to expand the program. States identified with high-fraud areas will receive increased funding to support more strategies for collaboration, media outreach and referrals, according to the website.
