The owner and the medical director of a Kentucky pain clinic were sentenced for their roles in a $4 million urine drug testing fraud scheme.
The owner, Timothy Ehn, 51, of Union, Ky., was sentenced to two and a half years in prison and ordered to pay more than $3.77 million in restitution, according to an April 12 Justice Department news release. Mr. Ehn is a licensed chiropractor.
The medical director, William Siefert, MD, 70, of Dayton, Ohio, was sentenced to one and a half years in prison and ordered to pay $1.7 million in restitution, according to the release.
The Justice Department said the pair billed for urine drug tests that were not medically necessary but were "lucratively reimbursed" by Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance companies.
