Attorneys for Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del., have reached a $123 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit filed by victims of a former pedophile pediatrician who held privileges at the hospital, according to a Washington Post report.
Earl Bradley, MD, is serving 14 life sentences for child rape after his conviction last year.
There were a total of seven defendants in the class-action lawsuit: Beebe, the Medical Society of Delaware and five physicians who allegedly failed to report suspicions about Dr. Bradley to authorities. The settlement, announced yesterday, resolves claims against all defendants.
The $123 million will be placed into a trust for the benefits of the victims. The fund is mainly made up of insurance proceeds with a cash contribution from Beebe.
