Nurses from Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice filed a suit against Springfield-based Baystate Health to recover lost wages and overtime that have been allegedly withheld, according to a Massachusetts Nurses Association/National Nurses United news release.
The class-action suit was filed Wednesday in Hampden Superior Court.
According to the release, the nurses have had to spend extra time completing documentation of their visits with patients, and that time has not been compensated.
"These nurses work long hours caring for their patients, and then after hours they must complete lengthy paperwork. It is appalling that Baystate would think it can get away without paying them for this time," Shannon Liss-Riordan, the attorney representing the nurses, said in the release.
The system says it had not heard complaints from nurses prior to the suit being filed. "The MNA-represented BVNAH nurses themselves record and submit all hours worked, regular and overtime, and are compensated for all hours they submit," Steven Bradley, Baystate Health's vice president of government and community relations and public affairs, told The Republican in a statement. "We haven't received a single grievance about these issues at BVNAH over the past two years."
