18 recently unsealed healthcare false claims cases: 4 takeaways

Eighteen healthcare lawsuits filed under the qui tam, or whistle-blower, provision of the False Claims Act were unsealed from late October through November, according to The National Law Review.

Here are four takeaways from the report.

1. The federal government intervened, in whole or in part, in three of the cases.

2. Half of the cases involve both state and federal claims.

3. Four of the cases involve kickback allegations. Of these, two allege violations of Stark Law.

4. The whistle-blowers in 13 of the cases are current or former employees of the defendant.
