St. Louis-based SSM Health Care has eliminated 586 positions through layoffs and attrition, according to a St. Louis Business Journal report.
Prior to the layoffs, SSM Health Care employed about 30,000 people across four states. Of the 586 total positions eliminated, 206 were in St. Louis.
Affected employees were in administrative positions and the cuts should not impact patient care, according to the report.
The workforce reduction is part of the system's strategy to standardize best practices in all of its facilities, instead of individual hospitals having their own procedures, according to the report. SSM Health Care recently restructured its organization.
The layoffs at SSM were originally reported earlier this week.
