MedStar Health, based in Columbia, Md., plans to lay off 98 employees at four hospitals in Maryland, according to a Baltimore Business Journal report.
The majority of the 98 affected employees will be from three Baltimore-based hospitals: 19 workers will be laid off at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, 29 will be from MedStar Harbor Hospital and 26 employees from MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, according to the report. The remaining 24 employees will be laid off at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center in Olney.
The system recently hired CBRE, a commercial real estate services firm, to manage those facilities, and the layoffs are related to that move, according to the report. Employees affected by the layoffs will be offered jobs at CBRE.
This is not the first round of layoffs this year at MedStar hospitals: MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., announced job cuts in November.
