Healdsburg District Hospital to Lay Off 8% of Workforce

Healdsburg (Calif.) District Hospital plans to lay off 8 percent of its workforce, about 30 employees, according to a report by The Press Democrat.

Before resorting to layoffs, the hospital slowed hiring, reassigned some employees and left open positions vacant, according to the report. "Layoffs were our last resort, but they were unfortunately necessary in setting up the organization for future success," Susan Spoelma, CNO, told The Press Democrat.

Hospital officials decided to make workforce cuts in response to healthcare reform after evaluating the size of its workforce in comparison to other local hospitals, according to the report.
