Blacksburg-based Virginia Tech opened a 139,000-square-foot expansion in Roanoke that will house new lab facilities, the university said Oct. 12.
The new addition, part of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute, will accommodate 400 additional researchers, students and support staff, doubling the workforce at Virginia Tech's Roanoke complex by 2027.
Included in the new facility are a wet lab, a molecular diagnostics lab, 3D and bio-printing labs, whole-room calorimeters and high resolution imaging equipment, according to a report by Fox affiliate WFXR.
